Watch for his foals in 2011.
Bred in Louisiana by Dr. Delmar Caldwell and Jo Ann Thompson’s Double Dam Farm, LLC, COSTA RISING began his two-year-old racing career with a 4-length victory first time out in a maiden special weight event for his breeder. He was then transferred to the stable of Charles A. Castille Jr. where he remained for the rest of his career. In his second juvenile start he was third in the $100,000 Lafayette Stakes to five-time juvenile Stakes winner Premier Dance.
As a three-year-old COSTA RISING reeled off a string of Stakes victories which garnered him the title of 2006 Champion Louisiana- Bred Three-Year-Old. From 13 sophomore starts he won eight events – six Stakes wins, including the first of two victories in the listed Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes and Delta Downs’ listed Gold Cup Stakes.
COSTA RISING returned as a four-year-old with a dominating performance which earned him not only the title of 2007 Champion Louisiana-Bred Older Male, but the coveted title of 2007 Louisiana- Bred Horse of the Year. He started the year off earning a triple- digit Beyer Speed Figure with a 5 ¼-length victory in the $200,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship Stakes. He followed that up with a 12 ¼-length win in the $200,000 Evangeline Mile Handicap, posting a 115 Beyer and setting a new track record of 1:36.51. He returned in his next start with an even more commanding 17 ½-length victory in an Evangeline allowance feature posting a career high 118 Beyer Speed Figure.
COSTA RISING finished his Horse of the Year campaign with a wire-to-wire, 15 ¼-length conquest in the Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes. “He is one of the top three Louisiana-breds in history, and he had some of the best Beyer speed figures of any Louisiana-bred ever — 118 and 115. I think for this region he was a phenomenal athlete.” commented his Horses of the Year season trainer Glenn Delahoussaye. “I was privileged to be his trainer.”
COSTA RISING retires after a versatile career winning from 4 ½ furlongs to 1 1/8 miles on both dirt and turf. From his 26 racetrack appearance he scored 15 victories, 10 Stakes wins, and won or placed a total of 20 times, 12 in Stakes. COSTA RISING retires with earnings of $901,616, ranking him third among all-time Louisiana-bred earners.
